Resources here to help during the COVID-19 crisis

Updated May 15, 2020 (original post March 27, 2020)

Update: There are emergency funds available for undocumented Californians. Here is the link for those living in Monterey County. Applications open Monday, May 18.

We want you to have access to information about resources that are available now, and which agencies may have adjusted services due to the Shelter in Place order.

United Way Monterey County has this 90+ page resource guide available to the public that has up-to-date information on services available at various agencies under the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order.

Their 211 service is also available as an online search tool at: 211montereycounty.org

If you need financial relief information, see our March 19, 2020 blog post. Additionally:

Through advocating for clients, our Campus Advocate Lorelei Ahlemeyer has looked into assistance that may be available for people who find themselves in tight financial situations due to the COVID-19 crisis. Keep in mind that:

- Banks and credit unions are accepting requests for no-penalty deferment of loan payments.

- Credit cards are offering to defer payments/penalties for a while for cardholders.

- Eviction Notices: Monterey County passed a temporary stop on eviction notices due to Coronavirus.  This also applies to campus housing.

- Student Loan Relief: The Department of Education announced additional measures to provide relief to certain federal student loan borrowers due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.  Borrowers are eligible for a special, interest-free administrative forbearance for up to 60 days. This will allow borrowers to pause their student loan payments during that time. They simply have to contact their loan servicers to request this.

- The IRS Tax Filing Deadline has been moved to July 15th.

We hope you are able to find what you need to stay safe, healthy, and supported. Our crisis line at 831-375-HELP (4357) is available 24 hours a day if you need to talk to someone about community resources.
